PULPIT PRAYER #1

Pulpit Prayer

God our Father as we sit here this morning we agree with you that you are our creator and we are creatures. How different you are from us. You have complete strength and power over everything, we are so weak next to you. You just keep on keeping on and we get tired and gumpy and need our sleep, yet your always awake, your light never goes out, your only a pray away. You have always be around you had no beginning and you will have no end yet we are creatures of time, there was a day our mothers bore us and there we will be a day will will die. You are everywhere, in heaven and Hell, in the mountains and the valleys, in Hospitals and schools, here this morning as we church together, home with our families, when we work and play. Yet Father you have bound us to in time and space. You know everything, your knowledge is so complete you know how many hairs we have on our heads.

Your the greatest Artist, Writer, Scientist, Doctor yet Father know so little. Thank you that we exist this very moment because of your will, not ours. As your know us better than we know ourselves we acknowledge that we are so unlike you; You are Perfect and without wrongdoing, we are far from perfect and constantly do wrong. Father you must punish our wrongs because you are always right and so your nature demands that wrongs. Father we love to be in control of our lives, but we take comfort from the fact that every single thing that happens in our lives and this world is because you decided it would. If we are sick heal us, if we are troubled give us your peace, If we are sad make us happy, if we are lost bring us home to yourself. If we are proud make us humble, if we are going our way and not yours, stop us and turn us around.

Finally Father God above thank you for your son Jesus. Father you say in your word that you performed the greatest act of terrorism when you crushed Him with your wrath on the cross, how he wept drops of blood in that garden terrorised at having to face your anger when all he had know was your love. Terrorised at being separated from you when all he had ever know was your perfect fellowship. Father Isalm might deny that Jesus died on a cross but your Word records it and so we believe the greatest event in history is true because you are true. Father if we are honest with you tothis morning we need your Son more than we need anything else. In the face of your terror we need his life because we are dead, we need his forgiveness, His cleansing because without it we face a terror far greater than terrorism, the utter terror of your anger at our rebellion. Oh God our Father thank you that only Christ is our only hope of being your friend, your child this morning. We cling to Him, we flee to Him, we look on Him by Faith because todays terrosim is nothing compared with your terror you will unleash when all who aren't your friends must stand before you for Judgement. Father in light of what you have done for us in Jesus we come together this morning as a community of your people. You have called us to yourself to love you and each other, to tell others there is a way to escape the greatest terrorist act yet, your great Judgement. Help David to teach us how we might reach others and share this incredible news that Jesus has taken the greatest terror that we might know. Amen
