David Yan

David Yan is the Pastor at Emmanuel Church, Auckland, New Zealand

In August 1965, while David Yan was a young university student of chartered accountancy he was wonderfully converted to Christ. This lead to a call to preach Christ and plant Churches.

He travelled to London to work in accountancy. He subsequently studied at the Bible College of Wales, Swansea, Wales. He was ordained to the gospel ministry by Pastor Joseph Hewitt at Providence Baptist Chapel (now Highbury Baptist Church), London. Pastor Hewitt himself served for many years as a gospel minister in the U.K. David was commissioned to church plant in New Zealand.

David returned to Auckland in the 1970's and began church planting. Emmanuel Church started in June 1974 and soon young university students from Singapore and Malaysia where befriended and converted to Christ. They became the founding members of this young Church. Over time three sister churches have been planted. The first was in Singapore. Some of David's original converts who returned after their studies to their native Singapore founded Shalom Church.

The second was Shore Baptist Church in Auckland, planted and pastored by Stephen Turner. The third church plant is a daughter church of Shalom Church - Ebenezer Church, planted a few years ago. Close links still exist between David, Emmanuel, Shalom and Ebenezer Churches. Every year David travels to Singapore and Malaysia to preach the gospel and to speak at camps and conferences.

David is one of the founding Pastors of the Fellowship of Reformed Baptist Churches of New Zealand (FRBCNZ). He is single and lives in the inner Auckland suburb of Mt Eden. Emmanuel Church also meets in this strategic part of Auckland city.

He is much loved by many Christians in New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia for his passion to preach the gospel, mentor new young preachers and see the cause of Christ triumphant throughout New Zealand and Asia.

David has composed Christian songs and songs on social issues such as abortion and child abuse.
