Preliminary Address 2 Scottish Reformation Rally
Might I take up a minute or two in making these announcements while the collection has been taken?
I should explain that your offerings will be used first of all to defray the costs connected with the arranging of this meeting.
And these costs are considerable.
A campaign is now beginning and will be carried on throughout the country during the coming months.
To instruct our people in the history and the principles of the Scottish Reformation.
Your giving this evening will be used in support of this campaign
after the expenses of the present meeting have been met.
And then may I draw your attention to books which are on sale.
You will find on the tables and book stall the vestibule of this hall a selection of
good evangelical literature. And we invite your attention to these books which are being sold at
very reasonable prices. May I especially call your attention to two new books which have just been
which have just been published. They are on this very important subject of the Scottish Reformation.
The first one the title the torch still burns by the Reverend G.N.M. Collins VD.
Might I say that this book scarcely requires to be introduced because it is already
widely sold throughout the country. It is a book which is intended particularly for the young
and is very reasonably priced. The paper copy costs two and sixpence and the stiff binding
for shillings. And then the second book which has more recently come on the market
was in the past week the story of the Scottish Reformation by professor Renwick who is our
chairman this evening. This again is a very reasonably priced book the paper copy for
shillings and the better binding is six and sixpence. Now I would commend those two books
to you. They are extremely readable. If you begin them you won't stop until you've finished.
We know that reliable new books on the Reformation are difficult to secure
and the publishers of these two new books have done very well in providing us
for our Reformation year. That is the end of the announcement.
Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones will now address us.
